7 Tips for Rhinoplasty Recovery

7 Tips for Rhinoplasty Recovery

Rhinoplasty can be an exciting and life-changing experience, but you’ll need to be careful during your recovery process if you want to get back on your feet as soon as possible. Here are just seven tips for life after a nose job.

1. Stay Hydrated

Drink lots of water after your rhinoplasty procedure. Not only will this speed up the recovery process by improving your general health, but you’ll also keep your mouth from becoming too dry while you breathe through it more than usual.

2. Fluff Your Pillows

It’s generally recommended that you sleep on your back after a rhinoplasty procedure to decrease facial swelling. If you’re normally a side sleeper, however, you may find this uncomfortable, especially if your pillows have flattened to your usual resting position. Fluff them back up to give yourself better neck support.

3. Use Saline Spray

Saline spray can help you ease the dryness and irritation of your nasal passages after surgery. Just make sure that you clear it with your plastic surgeon beforehand. They might tell you to hold off for a few days or to use a particular brand.

4. Don’t Blow Your Nose

This may sound like a no-brainer, but you can cause discomfort and even damage to your new nose if you blow it too soon. It’s best to avoid any kind of physical activity that can aggravate it. Use a tissue if snot becomes a problem.

5. Decrease Your Sodium Intake

Salt increases fluid retention, and fluid retention can make you feel swollen and bloated. This is especially true when your face is already uncomfortable after a nose job. Try putting yourself on a low-sodium diet to stave off these effects.

6. Use Cool Compresses On Your Face

If you’re in pain after surgery, don’t be afraid to drape a cool compress over your face and take a nap. The cold will help with the inflammation; the sleep will speed up your healing in general.

7. Know What To Expect

Last but certainly not least, ask your doctor what to expect during your recovery process. They can warn you of any symptoms or side effects you might experience. For example, many people report feelings of numbness in their nose after a rhinoplasty procedure, and those are perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

These are just a few things to keep in mind after you return home from rhinoplasty. Good luck!
