3 Things to Know About Breast Reduction in Scottsdale, AZ

Breast reduction surgery is a popular procedure that provides many women with much needed relief from heavy, uncomfortable breasts. It’s a popular procedure in Scottsdale and has helped a lot of women improve their quality of life. There are a few things that should be considered before opting into breast reduction surgery in Scottsdale. Here are three of them listed below.

1. The surgery can impact your ability to breastfeed.

If breastfeeding is important to your family, you may want to reconsider breast reduction surgery. While most women still maintain the ability to breastfeed, there is a chance that you could lose it, especially if a lot of breast tissue has to be removed. The nerves and milk ducts could get damaged during surgery, or the nipples may have to be severed in order to be moved. Talk with your doctor to find out your risk of this happening.

2. You may lose sensation in your nipples.

This can occur for many of the same reasons that you may lose your ability to breastfeed. Not everyone loses sensation in their nipples but for those that do, there is hope. The loss of sensation could be temporary at best and permanent at worst. Sometimes, it could take a great length of time to fully regain sensation in your nipples. Another possibility is that you develop hypersensitivity, meaning your nipples are overly sensitive.

3. You’ll need several weeks to a couple of months to heal after the surgery.

Although the pain after the surgery will be bearable, you’ll need to keep in mind that you may have to miss a couple of weeks of work. You’ll need to take it easy so you aren’t irritating your stitches, so you’ll probably want to make sure you have someone around to help you. On average, plan at least two months to heal. You may heal sooner than that, but you don’t want to rush the healing process.
