Liposuction Can Help When Exercise Does Not

Even when we eat properly and exercise regularly, there may be stubborn deposits of fat that will just not budge. Contrary to popular belief, it may not be that one has an extra few pounds to lose. As a matter of fact, there are many women and men, who are in great shape but find that even the best diet and toning regimen will not get rid of these problem areas. This is where liposuction can help.

What Does Liposuction Do?

Liposuction is a form of body contouring, sometimes called sculpting. During this outpatient procedure, fat cells are removed directly from a specific area of the body via a tool known as a cannula. The cannula is a small tube that allows the surgeon to target the problem area specifically, removing the fat cells without disturbing surrounding bodily structures.

Are You a Candidate for Liposuction?

Although each circumstance is different, there are a few general rules of thumb that makes one a good candidate for liposuction. The prospective client should not only be at a stable weight but as close to their ideal body weight as possible. Those who have loose skin may not be suitable candidates for the procedure as the goal is to remove fat cells in targeted areas which can actually enhance the appearance of already sagging skin. Other factors such as good overall health is also important.

Are the Results Permanent?

As previously mentioned, the ideal candidate is one who is close to their ideal weight. Despite the fact that liposuction completely rids the body of the fat cells in the treated area, proper lifestyle changes should be maintained for optimal long-lasting results. Weight gain can cause expansion of the existing fat cells in not only the previously treated area but other areas of the body as well.
