What You Need to Know About Breast Lift Plastic Surgery

Mastopexy, the technical term for what most know as a “breast lift”, is a procedure that raises the breasts by use of tissue tightening and removal of excess skin. Recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons has even shown that the want for breast lifts has increased a total of 70% from 2000.

Breast lifts aren’t just for sagging skin, though; occasionally areolas can enlarge dramatically, and as some women don’t find it appealing, the breast lift can remedy that.

The breast lifts are most commonly used to regain the youthfulness of figure by uplifting and shaping the breasts, reversing the loss of elasticity, the likes of which can stem from many different causes – not just age. Drastic changes in weight, pregnancy, genes, and breastfeeding can also be detrimental to breast shape and contour.

Breast lifts, however, do not change the cup sizes.

According to data found in 2016 by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average breast lift surgery can cost between 4,000 and 5,000 dollars, the sum of which does not include operating room facilities, anesthesia, or other factors.

When going for a breast lift, it is often a good idea to settle the financial aspects first, such as whether health insurance will cover it or if patient financing plans are available. One should ask the plastic surgeon any question, regardless of if it sounds important, to ensure peace of mind.

After the procedure is done, there is a recovery process before a trip to the beach can be made. Bandages will be on the incisions until fully healed, and a support bra will be necessary to provide added uplift to the breasts during said time.

The results of the breast lift surgery is instant, and the swelling from surgery as well as the incision lines will resolve themselves in time. After the first few months with the newly uplifted breasts, the permanent result will show, and while the incision lines never fully fade, they do become less and less visible over time.

Even though the surgery gives the breasts a lift, keeping a healthy lifestyle, managing weight, and other factors, such as post-surgery childbearing can effect the breasts in a positive or negative way.

Our plastic surgeon will give instructions on care for the breasts after the surgery.
