Breast Augmentation Revision Surgery

Breast augmentation revision surgeries are for women who have had previous breast augmentation surgeries and are looking to replace their implants. There are a few reasons why a woman wants to replace her implants.

Change the Size of the Implants

After years of having breast implants a woman might want to change the size of her implants. If the woman had larger breast implants the first time, perhaps she may want a reduction in size. This may be for cosmetic reasons or because she is experiencing back pain, for example. Sometimes a woman wants larger breasts the second time around.

Get a Concurrent Breast Lift

A woman may want to have a breast lift at the same time as the revision, so as to lift her breasts that have sagged over the years. The surrounding tissue and skin stretches and sags over time with implants just like it does with natural breasts.

Change the Style of Implant

A woman may want to change the style of her implants from saline to silicone or vice versa. Our plastic surgeons are happy to discuss which type of implants will work best for you.

Pain From Capsular Contracture

Sometimes after a breast augmentation surgery the body forms a capsule of scar tissue around the new implant or implants. This is called capsular contracture. Sometimes this capsule squeezes the implants which may cause pain. It can also cause a distorted look. If this occurs, a woman may choose to get a revision surgery.

Rupture or Leaking Implants

Very few women experience a breast implant that ruptures or has a slow leak. However, it is possible. If this occurs many years after the first breast augmentation surgery, the surgeon will advise the woman to have both breast implants replaced with new ones.
