Facelift Plastic Surgeon in Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Chandler

Aging, pollutants and too much sun all combine to damage your skin in ways that can make you look tired, cross or older than you are. Time alone causes the fat at the bottom of your face to sag and create jowls, folds and furrows. Time also causes your facial muscles to lose tone. Throughout your life your skin goes through a cycle where it renews itself, but as you age that cycle grows shorter. Because of this shortening, skin cells do not rejuvenate as well and become less supple. Levels of proteins and sugars such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid that keep your skin springy and juicy start to fall, which leads to more sags, fine lines and wrinkles. One answer to these problems is a face lift.

First, you’ll have a consultation with one of our plastic surgeons in Phoenix, Scottsdale or our Chandler, AZ locations. During the consultation, the doctor takes your medical history and assesses your bone structure and skin. The doctor also takes a look at your hairline, because the hairline tells them where to place the incisions during the surgery. Placing incisions at your hairline makes any scars hard to see.

Different Types of Facelifts
• Traditional Facelift
During with a traditional facelift, the surgeon starts the incision at your temples, continues around your ears and ends at the bottom of your scalp. The surgeon then repositions the fat of your face, pulls your skin up and back, and removes excess skin.

• Limited Facelift
The surgeon makes shorter incisions around your temples and ears and may place incisions in the natural folds of your lower eyelids.

• Deep Plane Facelift
The surgeon first performs a brow lift, then makes incisions in the creases of your lower eyelid and inside your mouth. Most patients who opt for a deep plane facelift are younger than average, and the recovery time is a bit longer than for a traditional facelift.

• Superficial Musculo Aponeurotic System, or SMAS
In this type of facelift, the surgeon pulls back the muscles and connective tissue in your face, then repositions fat and muscles over your cheekbones.

• Extended SMAS
Extended SMAS resembles SMAS, but the surgeon concentrates on the middle of your face.
