Liposuction Basics

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that reduces excess fat from the body. During the procedure, a small incision is made in the skin and a tube connected to a vacuum-like machine is inserted into the fatty layer. Once inserted, the fat is sucked through a tube and into a sterile collection system. After the procedure, an elastic compression garment is placed on the patient to help the skin contract. The procedure is performed under a local anesthetic, which remains in effect for 24 hours after the surgery. Although most patients experience some postoperative discomfort, the procedure is typically pain-free.

Cost of liposuction

The cost of liposuction can vary widely. The amount of medication required will vary as well. Some surgeons use local anesthesia, while others may use a general anesthesia. General anesthesia will cost more, and larger individuals may require higher doses. Additionally, longer procedures require more medication and medical care, and complications can increase the total cost of the procedure. There are several different modalities for liposuction, including laser treatment, local anesthesia, and endoscopic techniques.

The cost of liposuction varies widely, from $4,000 to over $20,000. Several factors are involved in the price, including the surgeon’s fees, anesthesia fees, and surgical facility fees. It’s important to consider your financial situation and the interest rates that will accrue on the debt, as the cost of liposuction is not typically covered by insurance. Some patients opt for laser liposuction instead of traditional surgical methods.

Techniques used

There are many different types of techniques for liposuction. Each doctor has a preference for the composition and amount of fluid used. Depending on the patient’s preferences and the type of anesthesia used, each doctor will perform liposuction in a different way. There are essentially two main methods: the traditional cannula technique and the energy-assisted liposuction technique. In general, both methods can remove fat in a similar manner.

The UAL technique is an excellent choice for patients who want six-pack abs or to improve their overall body proportions. The surgeon inserts a small tube-like instrument, called a cannula, into the layer of fat below the skin. The cannula is then attached to a plastic hose. This hose breaks up the fat cells in the target area. Unlike the conventional technique, the UAL technique requires fewer incisions.

Areas treated

One of the most common areas treated by liposuction is the abdomen. However, the results are not always as desirable as one would like. If there is excessive laxity of the skin and insufficient subcutaneous fat, the procedure may not yield the desired results. The depth of subcutaneous fat in the abdominal region is subdivided into three layers in the upper abdomen and four layers in the lower abdomen. This means that it is possible to perform liposuction on both the upper and lower abdomen.

Aside from stubborn areas like the thighs, liposuction can also be performed on the cheeks and chin. During the procedure, fat cells are removed from these areas and a more attractive figure will appear. The results can be permanent. Liposuction may not be an alternative to losing weight, but it can be a great option for those who want to enhance their appearance without resorting to extreme methods like dieting.

Time involved

The time involved in liposuction depends on the location and type of procedure. A leg or arm liposuction procedure requires about an hour, while a back liposuction requires around one hour. Chin liposuction requires around twenty minutes. The size of the treated area will determine how long the recovery will be. Generally, the larger the area, the longer the recovery.

Post-operative pain medication and a few days of rest are required after liposuction. After liposuction, you’ll likely be given antibiotics and pain killers. During this time, you’ll probably be able to resume most normal activities, though some people require a hospital stay for a few days. After surgery, swelling is expected, but most settles in about four weeks. At that time, the results of liposuction should be apparent.
