Everything You Need to Know About Eyelid Lift Surgery

Drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes can make a person look sad, tired or irritable even when they are not. They also make a person seem older than they are. If the eyelids droop enough, they can even interfere with the client’s vision. Fortunately, our plastic surgeon in Scottsdale offers eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty. This plastic surgery removes bags, repairs droopiness and gives our client an alert and youthful look.

The Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery is practically scar-free. One of the reasons for this is the incisions follow the eyelid’s natural creases. It’s through these incisions that the surgeon takes away excess skin and fat and tightens the muscles around the eyes. They can also make incisions inside the eyelid. The surgeon can opt for a variety of tools to operate, including scalpels, scissors, radio frequency cutters or carbon dioxide lasers. They and the patient decide on the technique.

Blepharoplasty takes between one and three hours, and the surgeon works only one eye at a time, as the eye needs to be covered for a few days to heal. The patient can choose between general or local anesthesia.

Sutures are absorbable or non-absorbable. Incisions made on the outside of the eyelid are sutured, and the doctor removes them after a few days. The inner eyelid incision may not have sutures, but if it does, they stay in a bit longer than those used on the outside. After the surgery, the doctor applies dressings to the sutures and ointment to the eyes. They then add a compression bandage.

Recovery
Some swelling and bruising are to be expected after any surgery, but they will fade after a few days. The patient may find that their eye tears a lot, and they may have double vision for about two weeks or so. Discomfort can be eased with cool damp compresses. The client will need to sleep with their head elevated and not wear contact lenses for at least two weeks. Because the eye that was operated on will be very sensitive to light for a time, they should avoid direct sunlight or wear sunglasses and sunscreen when they go out for at least a month and a half. They shouldn’t drive until their eye stops tearing and their vision returns to normal.

The overwhelming majority of clients who have eyelid surgery are not only thrilled with their new, invigorated look. Clients whose drooping eyelids were interfering with their vision are now happy to see the world in all its splendor.
