Liposuction Techniques
There are many different types of liposuction techniques and technologies available in today’s market. However, it is very important to remember that only a few of these techniques and technologies are medically proven to give enhanced results. Many companies come out advertising new technologies that seem too good to be true…well, that’s because they usually are. Traditional LiposuctionTraditional liposuction is no longer or rarely performed today. Also referred to as the “Dry Technique,” this type of liposuction required general anesthesia. The dry technique derived its name from the fact that it did not use injections of local anesthesia into the fat before liposuction. As liposuction became more and more popular, the dry technique was abandoned because of the excessive blood loss it caused. Tumescent LiposuctionTumescent liposuction (also referred to as “liposculpture”) permits liposuction totally by local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia. This technique is now considered the safest form of liposuction. The word tumescent means swollen and firm. The Tumescent Technique uses large volumes of a dilute solution of lidocaine, a local anesthetic, in combination with the vasoconstrictive drug epinephrine, which temporarily shrinks capillaries. Local anesthesia used in the Tumescent Technique for liposuction is so effective that patients no longer need intravenous sedatives, narcotic analgesics, nor general anesthesia. Over the years, numerous patients who previously had liposuction with general anesthesia have had second treatments with the Tumescent Technique. Virtually every one of these patients has found the Tumescent Technique to be less painful, to provide better results and to result in more rapid healing and recovery. Laser Assisted Liposuction (SmartLipo)Laser Assisted Liposuction (smartlipo) is relatively new. It is the latest method for removing fat utilizing laser technology. The technique involves the use of a laser to rapidly dissolve the fat and tighten the surrounding skin almost anywhere in the body. Laser Liposuction is most effective in treating small and hard to get areas of fat and it is used in conjunction with traditional tumescent liposuction in order to enhance tightening of the skin. After conventional liposuction has been performed, if a small amount of contouring is required, Laser Liposuction is an excellent enhancement. Ultrasound Assisted LiposuctionThis technique utilizes Ultrasonic waves delivered through the cannula that liquefy the fat while traditional liposuction requires manual effort to pulverize adipose tissue. Ultrasonic waves actually target fat cells specifically, causing them to “implode” and liquefy for suction removal. Because fat cells alone are selected, blood and tissue loss is minimal. High Definition Liposuction with LipomaticThis is a new technology that accomplishes high definition sculpting. It utilizes a vibrating instrument that enables the surgeon to sculpt better than ever before. Advantages of liposuction with Lipomatic:
